Efforts to improve healthy food access

Locally, one in five South King County families do not always have enough to eat, and healthy food is even harder for some to afford.

A recent South King County community conversation revealed the challenges faced by residents to afford local food. With obesity set to overtake tobacco as the leading cause of preventable cancer, this issue matters more than ever.

King County and Public Health are working to address local economic and societal barriers to eating healthy food with two key approaches: the Local Food Initiative, which brings more healthy local food to consumers, and Partnerships to Improve Community Health, which works directly and supports affected communities.
